What's a coupon code prefix?

Learn more about what is used to begin single-use coupons.

Article ID: SLN19594

A coupon code prefix is used to begin each coupon code belonging to a single-use coupon series. A randomly generated code will be attached to this prefix.

For example, if you enter a coupon code prefix of MYOFFER and create a series containing 3 coupon instances, each coupon instance would begin with MYOFFER and be followed by a series of random letters and numbers.

Example (not valid coupon codes):

  • MYOFFERxyz123
  • MYOFFERabc987
  • MYOFFER5a6b7c

When a single-use coupon series is created with only one coupon instance, the coupon code will contain the prefix only. Since additional coupon instances can only be added to a series that's first created with two or more coupon instances, a coupon suffix is not generated when a series contains only one coupon instance. For example, if you enter a coupon code of MYOFFER and create the series with one instance only, the single-use coupon code will be MYOFFER.

Prefix codes are not case-sensitive and may contain only letters and numbers, and up to a maximum of 7 characters.
