When Social Media Sharing is enabled in your store, we recommend (but not require) that you enter a Facebook Application ID on the Variables page of your Store Editor. Learn how to get a Facebook Application ID.
When you provide a Facebook Application ID:
-
You can enable Facebook Insights for your store. When enabled at the domain level, Facebook Insights can provide you with at-a-glance information about products that have been liked, user demographics, and other key metrics.
-
You can use Facebook Pages to share product updates with customers who like a product, and to engage with these customers.
-
You help to ensure that the correct product image, product name, and product description are shared on Facebook.
While the Social Media Sharing feature has been designed to share the correct product image, product name, and product description even in the absence of a Facebook Application ID, because the Facebook Like feature belongs to a third-party site, this feature may change or go away over time. Providing a Facebook Application ID helps to ensure that the correct product image, product name, and product description continue to be shared in the event of some feature changes.
