The new templates and changes to the Store Editor have many benefits when compared to the former templates. The improvements include the following:
More search-engine friendly
- Text-based navigation links instead of image-based navigation links.
- Proper use of headlines—no longer image-based headlines.
- Proper alt attributes for images (the Name of the product or category (section) is used.
- Pages include three new standard fields: page-title, meta-description, and meta-keywords. These fields are automatically populated with content from Name and Description field in Add Product Wizard but can be edited with the Store Editor.
- Breadcrumb links enabled by default that show your users where they are in your store and allow for improved crawling and internal linking for search engines.
Full support for CSS
- Each template includes CSS files that work in conjunction with Variables. Learn more.
- Merchants can generate CSS objects within the Store Editor, rather than just uploading CSS files. Learn more.
- All supported tags now have the ability to add id and class for stylesheets.
Improved page coding
- Pages no longer include deprecated HTML tags such as <font> or <center>.
- Presentation layer has been moved into CSS resulting in lighter pages that not only will reduce page loading times but also be easier for search engines to crawl.
Store Editor Enhancements
- The ability to implement Theme Manager Learn more.
- Larger number of variables allows for more control over the look and feel of your pages without having to know CSS.
- Upload an Add-to-cart (Order) button using a variable.
- Variables organized mainly by region on the page (Header, Body, Footer) allowing new merchants to more quickly find the variables they wish to edit.
