Manage Posts in WordPress

Learn how to add, edit, and delete blog Posts.

The content you create in WordPress can be a Post or a Page. Blog entries are created as Posts and, by default, are displayed in reverse chronological order on your homepage. Pages are content that is not displayed in any chronological order. About, Contact, and Privacy Policy pages are examples.

Add a post

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Mouseover Posts then select Add New.

  3. On the Add New Post page:
    • Enter a Title for your Post.
    • Start typing Text in the body of your Post.
    • Click the Add block icon to add a new block to your Page.
    • Enter / to list the available blocks to add to your Post, for example, /video to add a video block.

    Note: When you click inside a text block, a text editor will appear right above it.

  4. Click the Settings icon in the top right and select the Post tab in the panel: The Post pane.
  5. Click the Save draft link to save your changes, click the Preview link to preview your changes, and Publish when ready.

Edit a post

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Mouseover Posts then select All Posts.

  3. On the Posts page, mouse over the Post title you wish to edit and click the Edit or Quick Edit links.

  4. In the Edit Post mode, you can edit any of the information above. Note: The Quick Edit option allows you to edit the Post without going to the full Edit Post mode.

  5. In the top right, click the Switch to draft link to draft your changes, click the Preview link to preview your changes, and Update to publish when ready.

Delete a post

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Mouseover Posts then select All Posts.

  3. Select which Post you wish to delete by mousing over the Post title and clicking the Trash link. Important: When you delete a Post, it will delete immediately after clicking the Trash link.
