Manage comments in WordPress

Learn how to enable, disable, and moderate comments on your blog.

Comment moderation allows you to prevent comments from appearing on your site without your approval.

Jump to:

Enable comments

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Mouse over Settings then select Discussion.
    The Settings and Discussion links.
  3. On the Discussion Settings page under Default article settings, mark the checkbox next to Allow people to submit comments on new posts.

  4. Click the Save Changes button.

Note: To disable comments, unmark the checkbox next to Allow people to submit comments on new posts then click the Save Changes button.

Moderate comments

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Select Comments.

    The Comments link.
  3. Mouse over the comment you wish to moderate. You will see these options:
    • Approve - Approve the comment.
    • Reply - Reply to the comment.
    • Quick Edit - This option allows you to edit the comment while staying on the Comments page.
    • Edit - This option will take you to the Edit Comment page to edit the comment.
    • Spam - Mark the comment as spam.
    • Trash - Delete the comment.

Note: To unapprove a comment, mouse over the comment options and click Unapprove.
