Manage your site menu in WordPress

Learn how to create and edit navigation links for your site or blog.

Menus are a theme feature in WordPress. The appearance and display options for menus are controlled by your WordPress theme.

Create a menu

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Mouse over Appearance then select Menus.

  3. From the Edit Menus tab, click the create a new menu link.

  4. Add a name for your menu in the Menu Name field then click the Create Menu button.

Add items to your menu

  1. In the Pages pane, click the View All tab.

  2. Select which Pages you wish to add to your menu by marking the checkbox next to the Page. Note: Click the Select All link to select all Pages.

  3. Click the Add to Menu button.

  4. Select the arrow to the right of Posts and follow the same steps to add any Posts to the menu.

  5. Click the Add to Menu button.

  6. If you wish to link to another website, select the arrow to the right of Custom Links and add a URL and the Link text. Note: If the link is to a secure site, make sure to change the http:// to https://.

  7. Click the Add to Menu button.

  8. Click the Save Menu button when ready.

  9. Click the Save Draft button to save your changes, click the Preview button to preview your changes, and Publish when ready.

Rearrange the page order in your menu

On the Menu Structure section, you can see the order of pages in your menu, from top to bottom. You can click and drag each page to a new location in the menu. The new location can also be as a subpage of another page. Remember to click the Save Menu button to save your changes.

If you prefer, you can click the arrow to the right of the page name then select the options to rearrange the order.

Delete a menu

Under Menu Settings, click the Delete Menu link.
Delete your menu.
