Transfer a mailbox to another user

Learn how to change which user can access a business email account.

There may come a time in which you'll need to grant a new user access to a pre-existing mailbox. All contents of the mailbox will be retained. Note: Please note that the mailbox address itself must remain the same as there is no option to rename an existing mailbox.

Important: After the new user activates their access, it's strongly recommended that they create their business email profile immediately. This will allow them to set up their password reset options and create an app password if needed.

Please note that to send and receive their business email using POP or IMAP, they must create an app password.

Transfer a mailbox

  1. Sign in to your Email Control Panel.
  2. Click the Transfer icon for the mailbox you want to transfer.
    The Transfer icon will be on the far right of the page.
  3. Enter the new mailbox owner's current email address, then click the Send Invitation button.
    Send Invitation is in the lower-right corner of the window.

We'll send an email with transfer instructions to the email address you specified. If your user didn't receive the invitation or you need to send it to another email address, just return to the Email Control Panel and click the Resend Invitation link under Pending Transfer.
This link will only show for mailboxes in the Pending state.

Note: To cancel the transfer the transfer before the user activates, click the small x icon to the right of Pending Transfer.
Click the x to cancel the transfer.
Next, click the Yes button in the Cancel Transfer dialog.
Confirming that you wish to cancel the transfer.

Note: Website Builder Lite plans do not have a business email option.
